Samruddhi expressway construction sit accident claims young life

Shahapur, Thane district – A horrifying incident on Monday night shook the construction site of Samruddhi Expressway as a girder launcher collapsed, tragically claiming the lives of 13 workers, including Nitin Singh, a 25-year-old labourer hailing from Balia, Uttar Pradesh. The mishap has left the entire community in mourning, as Nitin was set to begin a new chapter in his life with a wedding scheduled for February 2024.

Nitin had been diligently working with VSL for the past five to six months, earning a modest monthly salary of 18,000 rupees. He had aspirations for a bright future, working tirelessly to provide for his family and prepare for his upcoming wedding. The news of the accident was devastating for Nitin’s loved ones, who were informed by fellow workers and company employees.

Among those heartbroken by the tragedy was Nitin’s cousin, Subham Rampratap Singh, who recalled receiving the terrible news and the subsequent anguish shared by the family. The news of the accident had a profound impact on Nitin’s fiancée and her family, who were traumatized by the sudden loss.

The rescue team at the construction site made valiant efforts to save lives after the collapse, and they managed to extricate Nitin from under the collapsed girder launcher. Tragically, he had been trapped for approximately five to six agonizing hours. Nitin was immediately rushed to the Shahpur primary health center, where medical personnel, despite their best efforts, declared him deceased.

The incident has raised concerns about worker safety on construction sites across the country, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the cause of the girder launcher collapse. Construction projects like the Samruddhi Expressway play a crucial role in the nation’s development, but ensuring the safety and wellbeing of laborers must remain a top priority.

The loss of Nitin Singh, a young and hardworking individual with dreams and aspirations, serves as a stark reminder of the risks laborers face while contributing to the nation’s infrastructure growth. It is essential that measures are taken to enhance safety protocols, provide proper training, and offer adequate protection to those working in hazardous conditions.

As the grieving family and friends of Nitin prepare for his last rites, the incident serves as a solemn reminder of the need for greater attention to worker safety and welfare in the construction industry. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the bereaved family, and we hope this tragedy sparks meaningful action towards preventing such unfortunate incidents in the future.
