Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has strongly criticized the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre, alleging that it has established unprecedented corruption records in the past 75 years. Kejriwal’s comments were made in a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), where he shared a media report.
The report discusses an audit conducted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on the ‘Implementation of Phase-1 of Bharatmala Pariyojana’ from 2017-18 to 2020-21. The CAG report highlights significant cost escalation in the construction of the 29.06 km Dwarka Expressway, with the cost per kilometer rising from ₹18 crore to ₹250 crore.
During a press conference, AAP MP Sanjay Singh asserted that the Bharatmala Pariyojana aimed to construct 75,000 km of roads at a cost of ₹15 crore per kilometer. However, the Modi government reportedly increased the cost to ₹25 crore per kilometer, leading to an alleged scam amounting to ₹7.5 lakh crore within the project.
Reena Gupta, the party’s national spokesperson, referenced the CAG report to claim that the Centre had diverted funds meant for old age pensions to promote the image of the Prime Minister.
The allegations of corruption are centered around the Bharatmala Pariyojana, a nationwide road development project. The CAG’s audit findings have brought the issue to the forefront, prompting criticism and scrutiny from political opponents like AAP.
The CAG report has sparked further debate on government spending, project management, and financial transparency. The allegations made by AAP leaders have intensified the political discourse, raising questions about the utilization of public funds and the accountability of those in power.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, allegations of corruption and misuse of funds remain significant topics of discussion. The accusations made by AAP and the response from the Centre add to the ongoing debates surrounding governance, accountability, and transparency in the country’s administration.
