In recent developments in Indian-administered Kashmir, the visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has brought attention to a troubling incident involving the deaths of three civilians allegedly in army custody. The situation unfolded following the detention of these individuals for questioning after four soldiers were killed in a suspected militant attack.

Local tensions escalated as police initiated an inquiry into the deaths, prompted by accusations from residents claiming that army personnel subjected the detainees to torture. The army, although yet to provide an official statement on the matter, has declared its cooperation with the ongoing investigation. Additionally, reports indicate that the army has ordered its own inquiry to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.

Minister Singh’s visit to Kashmir, intended to review security measures in the region, underscores the gravity of the situation. During his visit, he expressed concern for the injured soldiers, emphasizing the importance of every army personnel. He assured that necessary steps were being taken to thoroughly investigate the incident.

About Civilian Deaths:

The Defence Minister is expected to meet with the families of the three civilians who lost their lives in Poonch district, offering condolences and addressing the community’s concerns. The deaths have stirred anger in the valley, leading to demands from locals and political parties for a fair and transparent investigation.

In response to the growing unrest, authorities suspended mobile internet services in Poonch and its neighboring district as protests gained momentum. The move reflects the challenges faced by authorities in managing public sentiments and maintaining order in the region.

The incident highlights the longstanding allegations of excesses by security forces in Kashmir, including accusations of beatings and torture. Kashmir, known as one of the world’s most militarized zones, has witnessed a history of conflict and heightened tensions, contributing to a complex socio-political landscape.

As the investigations unfold and the demands for justice persist, the situation in Kashmir remains precarious. The outcome of the inquiries and subsequent actions taken by authorities will play a crucial role in addressing the concerns of the affected communities and determining the path forward for this troubled region.
