Introduction 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 10th consecutive Independence Day speech, began by extending greetings to the 140 crore Indian citizens. By referring to them as his “parivarjan” or family members. In his address from the iconic Red Fort. He acknowledged the significance of unity and highlighted the need for peace and development across all regions of the country.

The PM’s speech took a significant turn as he addressed the ongoing issues in Manipur. A strife-torn north eastern state that has been grappling with violence and unrest. Expressing concern over the recent wave of violence and loss of lives in the region. PM Modi affirmed his commitment to supporting the state’s people.

“In the last few weeks, Manipur witnessed a wave of violence. Several people lost their lives, and our mothers and sisters were dishonoured. But, peace is slowly returning to the region. India stands with Manipur,” he stated during his address. He further emphasized that both the Central government and the state government were working in tandem to restore and maintain peace.

PM Modi extended encouragement to the people of Manipur. By urging them to build on the peace that has been restored over the past few days. He emphasized that the path to a solution would be paved through peace and cooperation within Manipur. This statement reflects the Prime Minister’s dedication to resolving the longstanding issues in the region and promoting its growth and harmony.

Additionally, during his speech, PM Modi reiterated the importance of respecting and addressing regional aspirations, while simultaneously ensuring the overall development of the country. He highlighted that violence and unrest in one region affected the entire nation, emphasizing the interconnectedness of India’s diverse population.

The Prime Minister’s address also paid homage to the Satyagrah movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and honored the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters, including Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. The speech maintained a somber and respectful tone, marking a departure from PM Modi’s usual style.

The Independence Day celebrations commenced with the unfurling of the national flag at 7:30 AM at Delhi’s historic Red Fort. The event was attended by Cabinet ministers, political leaders, the three service chiefs, and bureaucrats, all gathered to witness the Prime Minister’s address.
