Anju, a 34-year-old woman from India, met her Facebook friend Nasrulla in Pakistan legally and is set to return to India as per her visa conditions.
An Indian woman, who travelled to Pakistan to meet her Facebook friend, will be returning to India on August 20 as her visa is set to expire. Nasrulla, her 29-year-old Pakistani friend, has denied any plans of marriage and asserted that their relationship is purely friendly.
Anju, hailing from Kailor village in Uttar Pradesh and residing in Alwar district, Rajasthan, had connected with Nasrulla on Facebook in 2019. Their friendship led to Anju’s decision to visit Pakistan, where she is currently staying in the village of Kulsho in Upper Dir district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Speaking to PTI over the phone, Nasrulla emphasized, “Anju is on a visit to Pakistan, and we have no plan to marry.” He confirmed that Anju is residing in a separate room in his home, alongside other female members of his family.
The Indian woman’s visit to Pakistan was carried out legally, with the Ministry of Interior granting her a 30-day visa specifically for Upper Dir district, as stated in an official document sent to Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.
Nasrulla, a science graduate from a university in Sheringal and the youngest of five brothers, provided an affidavit to local authorities affirming that there is no romantic angle to their friendship. The affidavit also states that Anju will leave Pakistan on August 20 and will not move out of Upper Dir district.
District Police Officer Mushtaq verified Anju’s travel documents and issued a no-objection certificate, ensuring her safe stay in the region. The district administration has also provided them with adequate security, and Nasrulla assures that Anju is safe and sound with his family.
The incident has garnered attention in the local community, where most are Pashtuns known for their religious beliefs. Villagers are concerned about any negative repercussions this incident might have on their community’s reputation. Anju’s husband, Arvind, who resides in Rajasthan, hopes for her safe return. They have two children, a 15-year-old daughter, and a six-year-old son.
This event bears similarities to the case of Seema Ghulam Haider, a Pakistani woman who illegally entered India and formed a relationship with an Indian man she met while playing PUBG. However, Anju’s situation is different, as she legally travelled to Pakistan from India via the Wagah-Attari border.
Arvind confirmed that Anju had a valid passport and had left home on the pretext of going to Jaipur. It was later discovered that she had traveled to Pakistan. He expressed hope that she would return home as he was unaware of her online interactions with others.
Anju’s visit to Pakistan remains under scrutiny, but both she and Nasrulla maintain that their relationship is purely platonic. With her visa set to expire on August 20, Anju will return to India, bringing this unusual incident to a close.
