As of the second day of the monsoon session of Parliament, there has been chaos and unrest as Opposition parties demand a detailed discussion on the Manipur violence. The incident in question involves a video showing two women being paraded naked in Manipur, which went viral almost three months after it occurred.

Highlights from the session include:

1. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari questioned who the Prime Minister is answerable to—both the Houses of Parliament or the staircase to the Parliament. He criticized the government for not taking action against the Chief Minister of Manipur despite the shameful incident.

2. Congress MP P. Chidambaram called for the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and the imposition of President’s rule in the state, citing loss of confidence in the current government.

3. AAP MP Raghav Chadha raised the issue of a Delhi ordinance in Rajya Sabha, demanding its withdrawal as it goes against democracy.

4. Rajya Sabha was adjourned till Monday over the Manipur issue.

5. AAP MP Sanjay Singh expressed fury over the denial of his ‘Special Mention’ request in Rajya Sabha to bring attention to the situation in Manipur.

6. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi raised questions about the police action in the Manipur incident, saying that arrests were made only after the video went viral, which is a face-saver for the authorities.

7. AAP MP Sandeep Pathak criticized the BJP government in the center and state for failing to control the situation in Manipur for months and called for more decisive action.

8. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh expressed disappointment at the denial of a discussion on the Manipur issue and accused the Opposition of avoiding a serious debate.

9. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were both adjourned amid the ongoing protests and demands for discussion on the Manipur violence.

10. BJP MP Hema Malini expressed confidence that parliamentary discussion will take place on the Manipur issue and the government will address the situation appropriately.

11. Union minister Anurag Thakur accused the Opposition of looking for excuses to disrupt the House and avoid discussion.

12. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge demanded an elaborate statement from PM Modi on the Manipur issue, criticizing his previous speech as insufficient.

In addition to the Manipur issue, the Union government aims to pass 31 pieces of legislation during the monsoon session, covering various areas such as control of bureaucracy in Delhi, data protection, mediation, forest conservation, and reservation laws in Jammu & Kashmir.
