Delhi BJP demands accountability from PWD regarding irregularities in CM house renovation
The Delhi BJP, led by Virendra Sachdeva, criticized Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following the issuance of show-cause notices by the Directorate of Vigilance (DoV) to Public Works Department (PWD) officials regarding the renovation of the CM’s official residential complex. The DoV report, commissioned by Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena, revealed that a total of ₹52.71 crore was spent on the CM’s residence, raising concerns about the size of the complex, which allegedly exceeds the entitlement outlined by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Sachdeva questioned the expansion of the bungalow without proper tendering or budgetary provisions and accused the PWD of increasing the renovation costs from ₹7.62 crore to ₹33.20 crore without following due process. He also accused the PWD of deliberately dividing the work orders to avoid seeking approval from the PWD Secretary.
The DoV notices highlight the gross violation of financial rules, CPWD manual, and CVC guidelines, citing the demolition of the previous CM residence without a proper survey and the construction of the new building without a sanctioned plan. The BJP leader emphasized that this is just the first step and expressed confidence that the Delhi CM, whom he deems a symbol of corruption, will face legal consequences. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declined to comment on the matter.
