Delhi University is set to launch BTech programs in the upcoming academic session, with a total capacity of 360 students. These students will be admitted into three engineering courses through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains, according to an official statement.
The Faculty of Technology at Delhi University will be responsible for conducting the three courses, namely BTech Computer Science and Engineering, BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering, and BTech Electrical Engineering. A proposal outlining these plans will be presented to the university’s Executive Council for approval.
In April, the Ministry of Education granted approval for the creation of 72 teaching and 48 non-teaching positions to support the new BTech programs.
A committee was formed by the university in 2021 to explore the introduction of these courses. The committee held multiple meetings and thoroughly deliberated upon the subject areas of computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and electrical engineering.
According to the committee’s report, JEE Mains scores will be used as the basis for admission to the BTech programs. The university has also submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Education for the construction of physical infrastructure to accommodate the Faculty of Technology.
Until the exclusive building for the Faculty of Technology is completed, adequate space will be arranged for classrooms and laboratories. The committee authorized the vice-chancellor to make decisions regarding the required physical infrastructure.
Each BTech course will have an initial intake of 120 students, resulting in a total of 360 admitted students. The program’s curriculum will allocate a minimum of 50% weightage to the major subject area and a maximum of 65% weightage to the minor subject areas. This design aligns with the National Education Policy.
The BTech programs will provide students with various exit options based on their completion of credits and study duration. A certificate will be awarded after one year of study, a diploma after two years, an advanced diploma after three years, and a BTech degree upon successful completion of the four-year program.
The departments of Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering will be located on the university’s North Campus for logistical support and proximity to other faculties and departments.
