Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved a major milestone in the construction of the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor as it successfully completed the structural work on a 4-kilometer-long elevated viaduct. This stretch of the viaduct connects the Majlis Park and Bhalaswa Metro stations on the corridor, providing a crucial link in the transportation network.

The completion of the structural work is a significant achievement for the DMRC’s engineers, considering the challenging circumstances in which the project commenced. The construction work began amidst the COVID-19 crisis, leading to intermittent delays caused by the pandemic and issues related to obtaining tree-cutting clearances. Despite these hurdles, the DMRC persevered and ensured the successful completion of the viaduct.

With the structural work finished, the DMRC has now handed over the completed stretch to the system contractors for the next phase of track laying and traction work. This includes the installation of overhead electrification (OHE) masts and other necessary equipment. The viaduct’s construction will soon be completed till Haiderpur Badli, with only a railway track crossing remaining.

The completion of this particular stretch of the viaduct without causing major disruption to the flow of traffic below is commendable. It reflects the DMRC’s commitment to minimizing inconveniences for the public during the construction process.

The Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg Metro corridor is a crucial part of the DMRC’s Phase-IV expansion plan. This expansion aims to construct 65 kilometers of new lines across three different corridors, with 28 kilometers being underground and the rest elevated. Additionally, the project includes the establishment of 11 new interchange stations, enhancing connectivity for commuters.

The DMRC is making steady progress on the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor, with previous achievements including the completion of 2.2 kilometers of underground tunnels between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension. On June 2, another tunnel boring machine (TBM) was lowered for tunnelling work between Derawal Nagar to Pulbangash. The movement of the TBMs is being continuously monitored digitally to ensure the safety of the old buildings located above the tunnels.

Overall, the completion of the structural work on the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor’s elevated viaduct marks a significant step forward in the expansion of Delhi’s metro network. It showcases the dedication and resilience of the DMRC’s engineers in overcoming challenges and progressing towards the completion of this crucial transportation project.
