A man has been arrested by the Bandra police for allegedly attempting to murder his girlfriend at Bandra Bandstand. The accused allegedly tried to strangle her, slammed her head against the ground, and attempted to drown her in a gutter. Prior to the assault, he claimed to have converted from Hinduism to Islam in order to marry her.

The police have charged him with attempted murder and are conducting further investigations. The victim, who is now in a stable condition, has been identified as Lubna Javed Sukte, a resident of Kongaon, Kalyan. The accused, Aakash Mukherjea, hails from Khadakpada, Kalyan, and the two had been in a long-term relationship. The incident occurred after the couple visited the Gateway of India and Girgaon Chowpatty earlier that day.

According to Sukte’s statement, Mukherjea’s behavior changed when she expressed her desire to go home, and he attempted to coerce her into physical intimacy. When she refused, he allegedly attacked her. Locals came to her aid after she screamed for help, and the police were notified. Sukte suffered injuries to her eyes and nose but is now in a stable condition. The police have arrested Mukherjea and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
