Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt didn’t hold back when discussing Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni after the IPL 2023 final. Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title, equaling the record set by Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians. While both captains are highly regarded in the tournament’s history, Butt made an interesting remark when asked to compare them.
During a YouTube live session, a fan inquired about their fitness, and Butt almost chuckled before stating that there’s a “world of difference” between Dhoni and Rohit. Although he didn’t specifically address Dhoni’s fitness, Butt criticized Rohit Sharma for not maintaining high levels of fitness, considering his captaincy role and the example he should set for his teammates.
Butt emphasized that as a captain, leading by example in all aspects, including fitness, is crucial. He believed that Rohit Sharma, as the captain of India, should strive to be at the forefront of fitness standards. Butt suggested that improving fitness would enhance Rohit’s batting and confidence. He expressed confusion about why Rohit hasn’t reached the desired fitness level, speculating that the Indian captain might know the reason himself.
In contrast, Dhoni, at 41 years old, has primarily taken on the role of a late finisher in the batting order. However, behind the wickets, Dhoni’s lightning-quick reflexes were evident, as demonstrated in the IPL final when he stumped Shubman Gill in just 0.1 second.
