Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, Swati Maliwal, has met with the family of a teenage girl who was brutally stabbed and bludgeoned to death by her 20-year-old boyfriend. Maliwal demanded that the accused be given a death sentence within the next six months, calling for exemplary punishment to be meted out by the government and the courts.

During her meeting with the victim’s family in Shahbad Dairy, Maliwal expressed deep concern for their well-being, stating that they are in a dire financial situation and the mother, overwhelmed by grief, has fainted multiple times.

Maliwal also lamented the lack of assistance from bystanders during the attack, emphasizing that the girl’s life might have been saved if someone had intervened or raised an alarm.

Maliwal reassured the victim’s family that the DCW is dedicated to seeking justice for their daughter, with their team providing support to the family since the previous night. She vowed to work relentlessly to ensure the case is pursued diligently.

Addressing the broader issue of law and order in the national capital, Maliwal expressed grave concern over the prevailing lack of fear among perpetrators.

She highlighted the urgent need for a robust system that instills fear in potential offenders and ensures the safety and protection of women and children.

The disturbing incident occurred on Sunday when the accused, identified as Sahil, allegedly stabbed the 16-year-old girl multiple times before bludgeoning her to death. CCTV footage captured the incident, revealing the presence of onlookers who failed to intervene. The police reported that the murder took place after the girl attempted to end her relationship with Sahil, which angered him.

Sahil was apprehended in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday and subsequently placed under police custody for two days.

The tragic murder has shed light on the urgent need for stringent measures to address domestic violence and ensure the safety of individuals, particularly women and children, in society.
