Delhi, India – Mild tremors were felt in Delhi and its neighbouring areas today, following an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 that struck near Fayzabad, Afghanistan, according to India’s National Center for Seismology. The seismic activity occurred on Sunday morning, causing temporary disruptions but resulting in no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.

The tremors were first felt around 11:23 am local time and lasted only a few seconds, as reported by seismologists. The effects of the earthquake were also experienced in various parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh.

The National Center for Seismology confirmed that the earthquake originated approximately 79 kilometers southeast of Fayzabad, Afghanistan. It occurred at a depth of 220 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface, contributing to the mild intensity of the tremors felt in the affected regions.

Authorities in Delhi and the neighboring areas swiftly responded to the situation by initiating standard emergency protocols and ensuring the safety of residents. No significant structural damage or injuries were reported immediately following the earthquake.

The earthquake’s magnitude of 5.2, although moderate, was sufficient to generate noticeable tremors in the vicinity. Seismic activity in this region can be attributed to the tectonic movements of the Indian and Eurasian plates, which frequently experience interactions leading to minor earthquakes.

Citizens of Delhi and neighboring regions took precautionary measures by evacuating buildings and seeking open spaces until the situation stabilized. The prompt response of individuals, coupled with the region’s prior experience in handling seismic events, contributed to the overall safety of the population.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and evaluate any potential aftershocks that may occur as a result of the initial earthquake. They urge residents to remain vigilant and follow any further instructions or advisories issued by the relevant authorities.

Earthquakes are natural occurrences that cannot be predicted with complete accuracy, but efforts to strengthen infrastructure and raise public awareness about safety measures have been ongoing in seismic-prone areas such as Delhi and its neighboring regions.

As seismic events can happen unexpectedly, it is crucial for individuals, communities, and local governments to stay prepared by regularly conducting drills, educating residents on earthquake safety protocols, and reinforcing buildings to withstand such incidents.

In conclusion, Delhi and its neighboring areas experienced mild tremors today due to an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 near Fayzabad, Afghanistan. While the event caused temporary disruptions, there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. The situation is being closely monitored, and authorities are urging residents to remain alert and follow safety guidelines as a precautionary measure.
