The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted CUET Slot 1 on May 25, which was from 8:30 am to 10:15 am. Here’s a detailed analysis of the CUET 2023 English and General Test by TIME Institute.

The English section lasted for 45 minutes with 50 questions, and students had to answer 40 of them. Each question carried 5 marks with a negative mark for wrong answers. The section was generally easy, with a few moderately difficult questions.

The English section included 3 reading comprehension (RC) passages, each with 5 questions. The passages covered topics like a father-daughter boat story, Prem Chand the novelist, and an entertaining speech. The questions were direct and focused on the passage content, such as identifying relationships, features of speeches, and matching items in a table. There were also a few synonym questions.

The remaining 35 questions in the English section tested grammar and vocabulary skills. The question types included fill in the blanks, sentence rearrangement, error identification, and matching words with meanings. There were also questions on foreign expressions, correct spelling, synonyms/antonyms, phrasal verbs, passive voice, direct/indirect speech, question tags, parts of formal/informal letters, identifying adjectival clauses, and exclamatory to affirmative sentence conversion. Some questions in this section were considered slightly challenging.

Moving on to the General Test section, it lasted for 60 minutes with 60 questions, and students had to answer 50 of them. The section was worth a total of 250 marks.

In the Quantitative Ability section, which had about 25 questions, the difficulty level was easy to moderate. The questions covered topics such as percentages, ratios, simple interest, Venn diagrams, time and distance, algebraic expressions, angles of elevation, and area of a circle.

The Logical Reasoning section consisted of mostly easy questions on coding, letter and number series, image series, and syllogism.

The General Knowledge (GK) questions were primarily based on static topics related to India and science concepts. Some topics included Indian Nobel prize winners and their areas, scientists and their contributions, identifying metals, components of natural gas, units of measurement, diseases and their deficiencies, Indian medal winners in the Tokyo Olympics, and matching authors with their books.

Overall, the CUET Slot 1 paper analysis suggests that the English section was relatively easy with a few moderately difficult questions, while the General Test section had a mix of easy and moderate questions in different subjects.
