Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has strongly denied allegations that he called for the controversial film “The Kerala Story” to be banned. He criticized those spreading false news about his stance and accused them of seeking cheap publicity. In an interview with News18, Siddiqui expressed his agreement with director Anurag Kashyap’s statement opposing the ban on the film. Kashyap had argued that banning a film, regardless of its content, is unjust. Siddiqui added that creating a film that intentionally harms or hurts someone is morally wrong.

The actor emphasized the social significance of films, stating that they should promote harmony and love instead of causing division or harm. Siddiqui stressed that filmmakers should be cautious about potentially hurting sentiments or inciting discord. However, his statements received backlash from netizens who spread false rumors, suggesting that Siddiqui supported banning the film. Frustrated by the situation, Siddiqui took to Twitter to clarify his position and criticized those spreading “fake news” for the sake of generating views and internet traffic.

“The Kerala Story” faced intense scrutiny upon its release on May 5th, as it was accused of distorting facts. The film initially claimed to depict the story of 32,000 women but was later corrected by the director, who clarified that it was actually centered around three women.

In his Twitter post, Siddiqui urged people to stop circulating false news and reiterated his firm stance against banning any film. He called for an end to the practice of banning movies and emphasized the need to halt the spread of fake news. The actor’s swift response aimed to dispel the misinformation surrounding his views and defend his commitment to freedom of expression within the film industry.
