The Border Security Force (BSF) continues to successfully intercept Pakistani drones that are intruding into Indian territory along the Punjab border to drop drugs consignments. In the latest incident, the BSF intercepted a fifth drone in just four days. The drone was brought down in the Amritsar sector, specifically in Bhaini Rajputana village of Amritsar district.
Upon examination, the BSF discovered that the drone was a black-colored quadcopter of ‘DJ Matrice 300 RTK’ make. It was equipped with an iron ring that held a payload of approximately 2.1 kilograms of suspected heroin. Additionally, a small torch was found attached to the drone, presumably to help drug smugglers locate and retrieve the consignment from the Indian side of the border.
This recent interception marks the fifth reported instance of a rogue unmanned aerial vehicle being neutralized along the Punjab border since May 19. Although troops reported hearing buzzing sounds from drones on a few more occasions over the past few days, no further evidence could be established.
In a previous incident, the BSF successfully shot down two drones and intercepted a third, but the third drone fell on the Pakistani side and could not be recovered. Furthermore, on Saturday night (May 20), the BSF intercepted a drone that violated Indian airspace in the Amritsar sector. During the operation, the force discovered 3.3 kilograms of suspected narcotics attached to the drone.
The Punjab border, which spans over 500 kilometers and is guarded by the BSF, has become a major area of concern for security agencies due to the escalating incidents of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles being used for smuggling drugs, arms, and ammunition from Pakistan into India. Over the past few years, this has posed a significant threat to national security.
