Relief from Heatwave Expected as IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting strong thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds in various parts of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi over the next few days. The meteorological agency attributes these weather conditions to a cyclonic pressure over eastern Uttar Pradesh, west Bihar to Telangana, and another trough from north interior Karnataka to south Tamil Nadu.

According to the IMD, several states in northern and central India are expected to receive rainfall due to these weather systems. The forecast states that rain is likely to occur in different districts of Uttar Pradesh until May 26, providing respite from the scorching heat. Similarly, Delhi is expected to witness showers after a few days, offering relief to its residents.

Additionally, the weather department’s latest bulletin indicates that a fresh western disturbance is anticipated to affect northwest India from May 23 onwards. This weather system may bring light rain and thundershowers to Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, northwest Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming days.

The IMD warns that the thunderstorms in Uttar Pradesh could be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. These weather conditions may impact daily activities and necessitate precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, parts of southern Uttar Pradesh experienced heatwave-like conditions on Sunday, with Prayagraj, Mathura, and Vrindavan being the hottest places in the state. However, the upcoming rainfall is expected to bring relief to these regions as well.

In Delhi, the minimum temperature on Sunday settled at 24 degrees Celsius, which is three notches below the season’s average. The relative humidity recorded at 8:30 am was 50 percent. The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies during the day, accompanied by strong surface winds. The maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to settle around 42 degrees Celsius.

Residents of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are advised to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and follow any instructions or advisories issued by local authorities. It is important to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, such as avoiding open areas, seeking shelter, and staying away from tall structures and trees.

As the IMD continues to monitor the weather systems, further updates will be provided to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected regions.
