Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the United States in the first week of June. According to sources from the Indian Overseas Congress, Gandhi plans to address Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in New York on June 4. However, the venue for the event has yet to be finalized.

During his stay in the US, which is expected to last over a week, Gandhi is also likely to visit Washington DC and Los Angeles. The purpose of these visits is not yet clear, but it is speculated that he may engage with university students and possibly hold meetings with political leaders or officials.

This upcoming trip follows Gandhi’s visit to the UK in March of this year, where his comments regarding the state of Indian democracy sparked controversy. During his UK visit, he alleged that the structures of Indian democracy were under attack and criticized what he described as a “full-scale assault” on the country’s institutions.

Gandhi’s remarks ignited a political debate, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing him of denigrating India on foreign soil and seeking foreign interference in domestic affairs. In response, the Congress party countered by citing instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising internal political issues during international visits.

The upcoming US visit provides Gandhi with another platform to connect with the Indian diaspora and express his views on various matters. Addressing NRIs allows him to engage with a key segment of the Indian population residing abroad and potentially strengthen his party’s support base.

It remains to be seen what topics Gandhi will focus on during his interactions with NRIs. Given his past statements, it is likely that he will touch upon issues related to democracy, the role of institutions, and possibly the current political climate in India.

Overall, Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the United States in June presents an opportunity for him to connect with NRIs, engage in political discourse, and further project his party’s perspective on critical issues facing India.
