In a bid to address the ongoing protests by wrestlers, Union Minister Anurag Thakur appealed to the demonstrators on Sunday, urging them to put an end to their agitation and maintain faith in the country’s law and order system. Thakur emphasised that the Supreme Court has intervened in the matter, and the Delhi Police is actively recording statements to ensure a fair resolution.”Supreme Court has given its judgement. Delhi Police has also registered an FIR and is recording statements. The magistrate is also registering statements. They must have faith in our law and order and end their protest,” the Union sports minister told reporters in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur.

The ad-hoc committee, recently formed to oversee the functioning of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has assumed complete control of the body in accordance with a written directive issued by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The move comes amid growing discontent and protests by a section of wrestlers who have expressed concerns about the ad-hoc committee’s legitimacy.

Addressing the concerns raised by the wrestlers, Anurag Thakur stated that the Supreme Court’s intervention in the matter guarantees a fair and impartial assessment of the situation. The court’s involvement is aimed at resolving the issues surrounding the WFI and ensuring transparency in its operations.

Furthermore, Thakur highlighted that the Delhi Police is actively recording statements from all relevant parties involved in the matter. This step will allow for a comprehensive understanding of the grievances put forth by the protesting wrestlers and enable the authorities to address them effectively.

The Union Minister stressed the importance of maintaining peace and order while expressing dissent, as it allows for a conducive environment for dialogue and resolution. He appealed to the wrestlers to have faith in the country’s judicial system and assured them that their concerns would be addressed through due process.

The protest by the wrestlers has attracted significant attention, with several athletes voicing their dissatisfaction with the ad-hoc committee’s appointment. They argue that the committee lacks representation from active wrestlers and fails to consider their perspectives adequately. The protestors have demanded the reconstitution of the committee with the inclusion of athletes’ representatives.

In response to these demands, Thakur assured the wrestlers that their concerns would be taken into consideration. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting and promoting the interests of athletes in India. Thakur also reiterated the importance of maintaining the integrity and autonomy of sports bodies while ensuring that the athletes’ aspirations are given due weightage.

As the situation unfolds, it is expected that the Supreme Court’s intervention and the ongoing statements recording by the Delhi Police will pave the way for a resolution that addresses the grievances of the wrestlers. The government’s commitment to transparency and fair play in sports administration remains a key focus, with efforts being made to restore trust and confidence within the wrestling community.

The coming days will likely witness further developments in this matter, as stakeholders engage in discussions to find a mutually acceptable solution. In the meantime, the wrestlers are urged to exercise restraint and have faith in the legal processes that are underway to address their concerns.
